Needlelace or
Needlepoint lace is the art of making lace with needle and thread. It is one of
the oldest types of lace known. Details of the first needlelace appear in
paintings done in the mid-fifteenth century. Needlelace was used on many
articles of clothing and household linens through the 16th century. It was one
of the major methods of manufacturing lace. This technique was lost towards the
end of the 17th century but was revived in the 19th century. Today, through
modern technology we can now create similar lace with our embroidery machines.
What used to be hours of painstaking work, has now become a relatively quick
method to creating beautiful lace projects.
